Agree or Disagree?

In all of our blogging, there is much we all agree on. As the story unfolds, some of you are picking up on the small details that reveal a lot about how a character is changing.  But some of you are not! Some of your inferencing is incorrect and your understanding of a character’s motives do not match up with their actions.

I have approved almost everyone’s postings so you will find some that you don’t particularly agree with.  Start with chapter one and read a variety of answers in all of the chapters….Find ONE that you DO NOT agree with and write a comment giving another viewpoint.   It’s not that the person’s answer is WRONG (but some are ), many times they just believe differently than you do……but there are some incorrect postings..some people did misinterpret the questions and responded in the wrong way……so find them!

You are free to comment on more than one, but when you disagree, you have to tell how YOU feel about the question…you can’t just say you disagree!  Give a thorough opinion, argument, or comment!

This counts as part of your comment grade! Follow the guidelines for writing as before.

I disagree with John on question one in chapter three. I think that Melody is a caring mother the first summer. She might just be a little careless. She is so pleased to see him that Melody must love him, which is all a mother can do. Also, John said that Melody did not have money with her at lunch and I also think that this goes along with her being careless. She is quite possibly just forgetful, but that does not mean she is a bad mother. Finally, John says that Melody does not spend very much time with him, but I contended that she does not have to spend every minute with him, they both need some time away from each other, but I still feel like she spent good quality time with Jeff.

I disagree with Alex on question two in chapter three. I think when Jeff says he wants to be “Melody’s knight” he wants to protect her no matter what. This is his way of showing how much he loves and cares for her. I don’t think he says this because he wants her to come back to Baltimore. I think he wants her to be happy wherever she is. Jeff wants Melody to love him as much as he loves her.

  3.   Adnan Says:

I disagree with Chandler on chapter two for question one. Chandler had said that Melody was a good mother and had wanted to spend time with Jeff after she left. I do not think that Melody is a good mother because she should have spent an extremely large amount with Jeff after she had left him for many years. Also I believe that Melody should have apologized to Jeff because she had left him and she had not given a good explanation of why she left. For example, a nice and good mother would have told there son why they left for so long and they would apologize and spent a large amount of time with the person they left. Chandler also says that Melody had loved the environment so much that she left her son to an uncaring father. That is not a characteristic of a good mother; Melody is not a good mother if she leaves her son to her uncaring husband. Melody should care for her son and stay by his side. Chandler says that Melody is so caring that she puts people in front of her, but if she was a real mother then she would put her child in front of everyone.

I disagree with Preston with why you think Jeff wants to learn how to play guitar. Preston said that he wanted to learn to impress her while I think that he just wants to relate to her. He just wants something to have in common with her. I also think he just really likes to play. That is what I disagree with Preston with.

I disagree with Maia on chapter 3 question three. Maia wrote that their should always be a reason to love someone. I believe that to really love someone they should make you feel special, like no one else can make you feel. Not all love will have people feel special, because sometimes it is only for money or something in return. Their does not always have to be a reason to love someone because that is not love at all. One example is Jeff’s love towards his mom. Melody had Jeff buy her lunches with his money for nothing in return. Also, even though Melody never writes back, Jeff never loses his love for Melody..

I disagree with Maia on number 3 in chapter 3. She disagrees with what Jeff said about love. I agree with Jeff’s opinion because love should be unconditional. You should not want something in return for your love. Do you love your mother because she buys you stuff or because she cared and supported you and helped you grow or when you were little, picked you up and gave you a hug when you were upset? Do you love your father because he gets you expensive things or because he protected you, pick you up when you fell down and checked in the closet and under the bed for monsters. Love is as unconditional as the relationship between trees and the earth; the earth protects the trees roots and holds water and nutrients while the tree is making homes for animals and fertile soil from its leaves, and prevents erosion. You don’t love somebody because they bye you things or they are cute, but because you need them to survive and they need you.

I disagree with Alex’s saying Jeff was Melody’s knight. I disagree with Alex because Jeff didn’t want to bring Melody back to Baltimore. Jeff didn’t say anything about bringing his Melody home. He said that he wanted to be Melody’s knight because he cares about her so much that he wants to protect her for anything harming her. Jeff wanted to make sure that Melody was o.k. Being Melody’s knight had nothing to do with bringing her home back to Baltimore.

  8.   Caleb Says:

I Disagree with Preston when he says that Jeff wants to play the guitar to impress Melody. I think that he wants to play the guitar because it simply reminds him of Melody. He needs something to remind him of Melody because Melody is the best thing in Jeff’s life at the moment and Jeff loved watching Melody play the guitar so he wants to learn how to play to keep Melody on Jeff’s mind.

  9.   Preston Says:

I disagree with alex in chapter 4 question 2. He said that Jeff and the Professor had a lot more to talk about when they acually didn’t. They also didn’t talk more because of the guitar, instead Jeff took the guitar up to his room and started playin it right away.

I disagree with Alyssa’s answer because I do not think Melody is a good mother. Alyssa said that she was a great mother but she left Jeff without saying good bye the only thing he could remember her bye is her note. Alyssa said that Melody was caring mother, if she is a caring mother why did she make Jeff wait at the airport for an hour doing nothing because she was late. She is sweet because she is worried and love’s Jeff but she made him pay for there own food because she didn’t have any and that is irresponsible. Melody is a hypocrite she says she brought on the planet to make the world a better place but in fact she just partly ruined her own sons and that should be the first on her list to make happy. Melody left Jeff with Gumbo witch is fine but she went of and did her own thing. That is why I disagree with Alyssa.

  11.   Beldon Says:

I disagree with what Adnan says about Professor as a father. Adnan says that Professor doesn’t care much about his child. I think that Professor really cares about Jeff because when Jeff got sick, he was really worried. Professor was acting this way because he does not know what to do with his child. He cares about his child, but he lets his child do whatever he needs to do and decides what is bad for him and what is good for him. When Melody was still in Baltimore with them, Melody was taking care of the child and Professor was not doing any. After Melody left Baltimore, Professor really did not know what to do with his child.

  12.   Ian Says:

I disagree with Harrison’s answer about why Jeff wants to learn to play the guitar. I disagree with Harrison because he thinks that Jeff wants to play the guitar so he can be good at something and I believe that has nothing to do why Jeff wants to learn to play the guitar. It has nothing to do with Jeff’s want to learn the guitar because he wants to learn to play because Melody knows how to play and he wants to do what Melody does. The guitar also acts like a link between him and Melody not because it makes him stand out or feel special.

  13.   Alex Says:

I disagree with Ryan about how Jeff feels about himself. Ryan believes Jeff feels good about himself because he feels like he is actually living and he can communicate with his dad better. I disagree with this because I don’t believe he feels like he is living, I think he feels like he’s not sure where his real home is. Also I disagree with what he said about how Jeff feels he can communicate with the professor better, even Melody was unable to do that, and the only think they could talk about was Melody and the professor does not like talking about her.

  14.   Melissa Says:

I disagree with Beldon’s comment on question 3, Chapter 4, when he says

“When Jeff reveals himself to us, I think he does not deserve to go down to Charleston. He is not doing well in school and is not making any friends. If Melody heard about this, she would not be very happy with Jeff. He also is really thinking about Melody because he is trying to get better at playing on the guitar and thinking of her all the time. This makes him vulnerable because if Melody had lied about what he thought was true, he would be very sad and depressed for a long time.”

I disagree with this statement because I think that Jeff would need some sort of break from the sadness and loneliness he is feeling at school, so a trip to Charleston might brighten his spirits. I also think that being the kind person Melody is, she would not be disappointed, but accept him with open arms and maybe try to help him.

  15.   harrison Says:

I disagree with Preston on that Jeff wants to play the guitar to impress his mom because it is not just his mom he wants to impress but it is to say that he actually has a talent. When he can say that he has talent to his mom they can play tougher. I disagree that the guitar just symbolizes his feelings to his mom but also visualizing melody holding him close and keeping memories alive so she won’t drift away. You can tell how much Jeff wants connect to his mom because he practiced till his fingers got calluses. Another way you can see that is by Jeff saved money over a few weeks to acquire the guitar.

  16.   Sara Says:

I disagree with Ian on question four in chapter four. Ian says that when the Professor and Jeff say, “It doesn’t make a difference,” the two really mean that its okay, and I don’t mind that you did something wrong; I can deal with it. I believe it means that they would rather not talk anymore about whatever subject they’re discussing. Or maybe they just don’t care about what they’re talking about. Only sometimes do I feel that they really feel that they are trying to reassure each other; convince each other everything is all right.
